Abstract

Inguinal hernia is a common condition encountered in surgical practice and presents with diverse clinical characteristics. This study aimed to describe the clinical profile of patients with inguinal hernia at H. Abdul Manap Regional General Hospital, Jambi, during 2023–2025. This quantitative descriptive study employed a cross-sectional design with a retrospective approach using secondary data obtained from the medical records of patients with inguinal hernia. The study was conducted at H. Abdul Manap Regional General Hospital, Jambi, from June to August 2026 using a total sampling technique, and the data were analyzed using univariate analysis. Of 260 identified patients, 91 were eligible for analysis. The largest age group was 18–59 years (50.5%), with a median age of 57 years, and most patients were male (94.5%). Indirect/lateral inguinal hernia was the most frequently identified type (64.8%), with the right side being the most common location (53.8%) and reducible hernia being the most common clinical characteristic (59.3%). The most frequently performed treatment was tension-free repair (81.3%). The clinical profile of patients with inguinal hernia at H. Abdul Manap Regional General Hospital, Jambi, was predominantly characterized by adult male patients with right-sided indirect/lateral and reducible inguinal hernias, with tension-free repair as the most commonly performed treatment. These findings may serve as baseline data for evaluating and planning surgical services and for further research.
